Abaca and willow woven basket, natural color home storage

This storage basket combines two natural materials: abaca fiber and wicker. The abaca is harvested from the pseudostems of banana plants—yielding long, exceptionally strong fibers—and is interwoven with wicker that has been softened through soaking. The base and main body of the basket utilize wicker as a structural framework, with abaca fibers wound around it to create a textured weave punctuated by small, breathable openings. The handles consist of double-stranded wicker bent into an arched shape, securely bound at the base with hemp rope. Left undyed, the natural materials present a variegated aesthetic, blending soft beige tones with the raw, earthy color of the wood. It is suitable for organizing clothing in the bedroom, tidying magazines in the living room, holding laundry in the utility room, or keeping keys and mail organized in the entryway. The hand-weaving process requires the artisan to possess precise control over the curvature of the wicker, resulting in a finished product that is both lightweight and durable.
