Corn stalk woven basket, green with handle

This storage basket is made from corn straw—specifically, the dried stalks remaining after the corn harvest. After being sorted and soaked to restore their pliability, the stalks are hand-woven by artisans using a plain-weave technique to form the body of the basket, with thicker stalks used to finish and reinforce the rim. The handles consist of separate bundles of straw, interlaced and secured at both ends. The surface retains the straw’s original pale green hue, with certain areas displaying natural color gradients. The rectangular, open-top design allows for easy access to contents. It is ideal for storing fruits and vegetables in the kitchen, displaying bread rolls on the dining table, organizing stationery in a study, or serving as a decorative sleeve for small potted plants. Corn straw woven goods are lightweight and evoke a rustic, pastoral charm; notably, no chemical adhesives are used during production—the structure is formed solely through the natural friction between the woven stalks.
