Water hyacinth storage basket, handmade brown

This product is crafted from the stems of the water hyacinth plant. Water hyacinth is an aquatic plant; after harvesting, the stems undergo a process of air-drying, peeling, and final drying. The resulting stems are hollow, lightweight, and naturally water-resistant. The weaving process employs a twisting technique: multiple strands of water hyacinth stems are twisted into cords and then coiled into shape, or alternatively, woven directly using an interlocking pattern. The brown coloration is the natural result of the stems oxidizing over time; no dyes have been applied. The basket features a shallow, tray-like profile, making it ideal for organizing small items on a tabletop—such as fruit, dried snacks, remote controls, or keys—and it also serves beautifully as a decorative sleeve for potted succulents. The water hyacinth material offers excellent breathability, preventing moisture buildup. During the hand-weaving process, the moisture level of the stems must be carefully controlled to prevent them from becoming brittle and breaking.
